By 2012, the US Therapeutic Botulinum Toxin will Reach over $850 Million
July 23, 2007—Waltham, Massachusetts—Millennium Research Group (MRG) has conducted a detailed analysis of the therapeutic botulinum toxin (BTX) market in its
Global Markets for Therapeutic Botulinum Toxin 2007 report. The analysis reveals that an increasing number of patients will receive BTX treatment for therapeutic use over the next five years in the US as there is an expanding range of indications which will drive the market to over $850 million by 2012; a 15% growth rate over 2006.
Toward the end of 2012, new therapeutic BTX indications are expected to be approved and reimbursed which will drive unit sales in the US. In 2009, Allergan anticipates that Botox will be approved for the treatment of chronic daily headache, a condition that affected nearly 2 million people in the US in 2003.
“Allergan also expects to receive Botox approval for neurogenic and idiopathic overactive bladder (OAB) in 2010 and 2011, respectively,” says Leonard Machler, Analyst at MRG. “Although the effect of OAB treatment on BTX procedural volumes will largely occur beyond 2012, there has been considerable interest in treating these conditions with BTX.”
