National registry data presented by European physicians at last month’s EuroPCR provided the latest boon to adoption of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The encouraging results revealed high success rates in addition to acceptable mortality rates and complications in the high-risk patient population considered in the registries.
Through 2014, rapid adoption of TAVI across Europe will result from the highly underpenetrated patient population. Like other percutaneous heart valve therapies, the use of TAVI will be mostly reserved for high-risk patients, such as those considered in these registries, who currently go untreated because their conditions are too advanced to risk the highly invasive tissue or mechanical heart valve replacement options. However, the new technique will also penetrate the market for these more conventional methods, especially among older patients who would benefit from the less invasive procedures.

This webinar, presented by MRG Analyst Dan Whalen, will answer the following questions:
- What support does the latest clinical research provide for TAVI?
- To what extent will TAVI penetrate the diagnosed, untreated high-risk patient population?
- How much will TAVI take away from surgical heart valve replacement volumes?
- What strategies have Edwards Lifesciences and Medtronic employed in this market?
- What are emerging competitors doing differently?
